Orrets Meadow Dyslexia Friendly School Award

Orrets Meadow Dyslexia Friendly School Award

This award has been developed to allow schools to celebrate their achievements in delivering a high standard of education for children with dyslexia.

To achieve the award schools should:

  1. Register interest with SENAAT

  2. Receive audit information

  3. Collect evidence and identify areas for development

  4. Produce an action plan to successfully complete the audit

  5. Apply to SENAAT for verification

Having achieved this, schools will have demonstrated that:

  • School leaders have a clear view of current provision and a plan to move school forward in this area

  • Children with dyslexia make good progress

  • Teachers and staff have the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to make appropriate adaptions and provide suitable interventions for children with dyslexia

The SENAAT team are able to guide schools with their applications and provide INSET when necessary to meet the set criteria.

Schools that apply for the award will receive a half day evaluation visit from the Manager of SENAAT to meet with school staff and children and review the evidence against the criteria.

Schools that meet the criteria will be awarded a certificate of recognition and can use the Orrets Meadow Dyslexia Friendly School logo with date of award on all publicity materials. Gaining the award will make a positive statement to children, their parents and carers, the staff and governors that their school is committed to provide positive learning experiences for children with dyslexia.

Schools that are working towards Dyslexia Friendly status: St Bridget's, West Kirby; St John's RC Junior School, Bebington; Great Meols and West Kirby Residential School.

Hayfield School has achieved Dyslexia Friendly Status.

To maintain the high standards that have been set, the award should be monitored on a yearly basis and fully reviewed every three years.
